이거룡학회장 저명해외인도학자상 수상 Prof Lee Geo-Lyong wins Distinguished Indologist Award

안녕하십니까? 무더위에 코로나로 모두 어려운 와중에 좋은 소식을 하나 알려드리고자 합니다.

사단법인 한국인도학회장 이거룡 교수(선문대)가 인도 외교부(Ministry of Foreign Affairs) 산하 인도문화교류위원회(Indian Council for Cultural Relations, ICCR)에서 수여하는 “2019년 저명 해외인도학자상”(ICCR Distinguished Indologist Award 2019)수상자로 선정되어, 지난 2020년 8월 13일 한국 스와미비베카난다 인도문화원에서 이를 축하하는 Dinner Reception이 진행되었습니다.

“저명 해외인도학자상”은 2015년부터 인도학 연구와 교육에 기여하는 학술성과를 올린 외국인 학자를 선발하여 매년 4월 9일 인도문화교류위원회 설립기념일에 메달과 상금을 수여하고 있습니다. 올해의 경우, 코로나19 바이러스감염증으로 인해 공식적인 수상식이 연기되었습니다.  

이거룡 교수는 1995년 델리대학교 철학과에서 박사학위를 받은 후 선문대학교 통합의학과에서 후학을 양성하고 있습니다. 『요가수뜨라 해설』(2017), 『이거룡의 인도사원순례』(2009), 『전륜성왕 아쇼까』, 『아름다운 파괴』(2010) 등의 저서와, 번역서로 S.라다크리슈난의 『인도철학사』(전4권)와 『달라이라마의 관용』 등이 있으며, 인도철학과 요가 관련 다수의 논문을 출간하였습니다.

인도문화원 행사에서는 스리프리야 랑가나탄(Sripriya Ranganathan) 인도대사의 축사와 소누 트리베디(Sonu Trivedi) 인도문화원장의 축사를 비롯하여 이거룡 교수의 간략한 답사가 이어졌습니다. 사단법인 한국인도학회에서는 이 지면을 빌어 이거룡 회장님의 선정과 수상을 축하드립니다.

Dear Members of the Society,

I am writing today to share good news for our Society.

Professor Geo-Lyong Lee (Sun Moon University), President of the Korean Society for Indian Studies Inc., received the Distinguished Indologist Award of the Indian Council of Cultural Relations. An informal reception was held in honor of the award at the Swami Vivekananda Indian Cultural Center, Seoul, on 13th August, 2020.

The annual “ICCR Distinguished Indologist Award” was instituted in 2015, and is conferred upon a foreign scholar for his contribution in study, teaching and research in Indian Studies. The award is presented with a gold medallion and cash prize on April 9th each year; however, due to the Covid-19, all official presentations have been postponed.   

Professor Geo-Lyong Lee received his Doctoral Degree from the department of Philosophy, Delhi University in 1995, and has been teaching at Sun Moon University. In addition to a variety of academic articles, he has also published extensively on yoga and Indian philosophy. 

The reception comprised on congratulatory remarks of Her Excellency Sripriya Ranganathan, Ambassador of India to Korea, and Dr. Sonu Trivedi, Director of the Indian Cultural Center, followed by short remarks by Professor Lee. On behalf of the members of the Korean Society for Indian Studies Inc., we heartily congratulate Professor Lee on the conferral of the Award.
